Alice Jeanette Manor of Perry

Alice Jeanette Manor, daughter of Joseph Francis Pille and Julia Rose Marie Goodman Pille, was born on her parents’ farm near Haverhill, Iowa, March 7, 1927, and died Jan. 26, 2017, at the Dallas County Hospital, Perry, Iowa. Alice was 89 years, 10 months and 21 days old.

Rosary services were at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31 St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry, with the Rev. Chris Reising officiating. Mary Stilwell was lector, with eucharistic ministers Myrna Smith and Katie Schott. Ushers were Bill and Carole O’Hare. The musicians were Chuck Schott and Doug Stilwell.

Alice’s casket bearers were Bill Gaspar, Noah Gaspar, Jacob Gaspar, Merle Mueggenberg, Steve Pille and Riley Flynn. The ladies of St. Patrick Catholic Church served a lunch at Hastings Funeral Home lounge before going to Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Alice attended St. Joseph grade school in Haverhill and graduated from high school in Laurel, Iowa.

Alice married Wilbur Dean Manor at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown Oct. 26, 1963. They were blessed with two children, Paul and DeeAnn.

The family lived in Des Moines, where Alice worked for several years as a bank teller for Valley National Bank downtown and later at their Second and Euclid location.

Alice and Wilbur moved to Perry in September 1994 and cared for his mother.

They were members of St. Patrick Church, and Alice was a member of the Regina Guild.

Alice was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her first love. She and Wilbur had been married 53 years and 3 months to the day.

Family vacations were a highlight of her children’s memories and also extended family vacations at the lake.

Alice enjoyed gardening and was surrounded by flowers at her home. She enjoyed playing cards with her family.

In earlier days, Alice was a good bowler and bowled with neighbors and on a team of fellow bank workers.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank, Vernon, Arthur and Ronald Pille; and sister, Sr. Delores Pille O.S.F.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Wilbur Manor of Perry; son, Paul Manor and wife, Tilly, of Des Moines; daughter, DeeAnn Gaspar and husband, Bill, of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Brittany Manor, Noah and Jacob Gaspar, and Mathew, Mason and Ben Ballard; four great-grandchildren, Mila Manor and Adision, Albrie and Michael Ballard; sister, Grace Mueggenberg of Sac City, Iowa; brothers, Marvin Pille of Marshalltown and Ray Pille of Marshalltown; sister-in-law, Sheila Pille of Nebraska; other relatives; and many friends.
