Under the skilled eye of Ames printmaker Kat Silent Water, visitors to Friday evening’s artist showcase at Betsy Peterson’s Design could try their hands at linocut prints while admiring the artist’s many images on paper and fabric.

Silent Water is a member of the ISU Print Club and a student of Jennifer Drinkwater, senior lecturer in the department of integrated studio arts in the ISU College of Design. She was a leader in the 2015 steamroller art project in Perry and has been a familiar figure in the local printmaking scene since then.

Joining Silent Water in Friday’s hands-on demonstrations of arts and crafts were five area artisans. Coppersmith Brad Keifer and woodworkers Joe Warnock and David Steil showed visitors the finer points of their arts, and gallery owners Betsy and Eric Peterson had their painting and pottery works at hand as well.

The artist showcase continues Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Betsy Peterson’s Design, 1121 Second St. in downtown Perry. Admission is free to this kid-friendly event.
