Services for Arthur Sayles, 88, of Lawrence, Kan., and formerly of Perry, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at the First Baptist Church in Perry. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 25 from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be at Violet Hill Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church in Lawrence. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Arthur passed away Sept. 22, 2015, at his home in Lawrence. He was born March 23, 1927, in Boone County, Iowa, the son of Marlowe and Hazel Ballentine Sayles.

Art graduated from Perry High School in 1945, then served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.

He was a rural mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in Perry, where he retired in 1985.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Lawrence.

Art married Nora Menz June 6, 1957, and later married Beth Gibler in March 1986.

He is survived by his children, Kinda (Stephen) Skea of Lawrence, Kevin Sayles of Gowrie, Iowa, Keith Sayles of Spring, Texas, Karla (Jeff) Ruest (Jeff) of Dansville, Mi., Kim (Mike) Holcomb of Harcourt, Iowa, and Kent (Nancy) Sayles of Grimes; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Francis Sayles, of Sun City, Ariz., and his sister, Ruth Whitehurst, of Clive.

Art was preceded in death by his wife, Beth; his parents; a grandson; and an infant brother.
