Flooded intersections along Iowa Street at 18th and 26th streets are best avoided, authorities said Monday morning.

Motorists are advised to avoid flooding along Iowa Street in Perry between 18th and 26th streets.

A flood watch has been issued until 9 a.m. Monday by the National Weather Service for the Perry area. Moderate to heavy rain turning to snow will continue across central Iowa through the morning.

Between 2 and 3 inches of rain fell over central Iowa over the weekend, with up to 5 inches in some places.

“Additional rainfall this morning will only push rivers and streams further toward flooding and make those already in flood worse,” said a statement by the National Weather Service. “Excessive rainfall has already filled ditches and saturated the soil. In addition, rivers and streams are expected to rise. An additional inch or more is expected overnight, leading to some ditches overflowing and flooding on area rivers.”

Sunday's rain turned to snow Monday morning, slowing commutes for the Perry-area workforce.
