Barbara J. Modlin, 88, of Dawson passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home.

Barbara J. Modlin was born Nov. 10, 1928, in rural Waukee, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Elsie (Smith) Jamison.

She married Jack Modlin Feb. 12, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Barbara worked at Camp Dodge National Guard until she married. She was a homemaker and helped Jack on the farm. She was also on the election board for many years in Dawson.

Her interests included genealogy, quilting and reading.

Barbara was a member of the Guthrie County Genealogy Society and a member of the United Methodist Church in Perry.

Survivors include her son, Steve (Jane) Modlin of Dawson; daughter, Joanne Modlin of Perry; brother, R. Francis (Kay) Jamison of Waukee; son-in-law, Terry White of Shady Shores, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer (Karl) Atencio of Frisco, Texas, Kristen White of Denton, Texas, Adam and Zach Modlin of Dawson; great-granddaughters, Mychal and Landry Hill of Denton, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Barbara in death were her parents; her husband, Jack; and her daughter, Janet White.

Memorials will be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in Barbara’s name and may be left at Murdock Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at murdockfuneralhome.net.
