Perry senior Kyle Nevitt admitted he had never, at any level, hit a grand slam before.
Before the second inning of Wednesday’s Raccoon River Conference game with visiting Carroll, that is.

Alexis Garrido was the happy beneficiary of the onslaught. He collected with win in five frames of work, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while recording four strikeouts.
Kaleb Olejniczak had a single and a triple and scored three times while driving in two runs, with Nevitt adding a double and a sacrifice fly to his grand slam to finish with five RBIs while Janier Puente provided two singles, a double and two runs scored.
Adan Medina had a double and stand-up triple off the bottom of the fence in straight-on center field, with Garrido tallying two RBIs while joining Brandon Kenyon in swatting base hits.
Austin Carpenter had a single and a double, Aaron Lockwood two base hits and Justin Stammer a single, with Stammer scoring three runs and Carpenter and Lockwood two apiece.
Devin Baack was left on the mound for all four frames for the Tigers. He allowed 16 runs (seven earned) on 16 hits and two walks.
Slade Sibenaller had a double and scored, with Noah Schulte adding a base hit and run. Alex Loew and Draven Williamson had RBI-hits for the Tigers.
Carroll fell to 1-15, 0-8 with the loss, with Perry now 6-12, 4-5.
