DES MOINES — Perry’s Zach Thompson dropped a pair of matches on the consolation side of the 106-pound bracket Saturday to finish in sixth place at the Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament.
Thompson (46-12) dropped a 5-1 decision to Iowa Falls-Alden sophomore Dante Tacchia (27-4). He then suffered a 5-0 loss to top-ranked freshman Gable Sieperda (51-2) of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock to end his first prep season on the podium.
Sieperda had dropped a 3-1 decision to New Hampton frosh Noah Fye (46-3) in their consolation semifinal; Fye went on to pin Tacchia in 3 minutes, 43 seconds to secure third place.
