CARROLL — The Perry boys golfers drove west Tuesday to join Boone in taking on host Carroll at Breda Golf Club, one day after the Bluejays and Toreadors had traveled east to play in West Marshall’s annual 14-team, 18-hole invitational at Lincoln Valley.

Carroll edged Boone, 154-158, for top honors Tuesday, with Perry carding a 168 thanks to a career-best one-over par round of 36 from senior Dane McCarty.

McCarty had bogeys on the par four first and sixth holes, but drained a birdie-putt on the par 3 fifth to record his strong round, which captured medalist honors.

Noah Wilkening would have match McCarty were it not for disaster on the first hole, leaving the Bluejay senior with a round of 41. Luke Rathje added a 44 and Connor Nielsen a 47 for Perry, which did not count the cards of 49 from Tanner Duffy or of 53 from Gabe Ridnour.

Kolby Paulsen (37), Cole Moore (38), Tyler Tunning (39) and Kyle Emery (40) scored for the hosts. The Tigers discarded the scores provided by Joe Eberle (43) and Jace Pettitt (44).

Boone’s Ben Wagner won a cardback for runner-up medalist honors after matching Paulsen with a 37. Ethan Lewis shot 38, Tristin Carroll 41 and Tanner Schminke 42 for the Toreadors. Tate Clemons (42) and Taylor Wauhob (42) also played for Boone.

The Toreadors won the junior varsity portion of the meet with a 183. Carroll finished at 198, with Perry having a 262.

Brady Iben (52), Kade Kilmer (63), Tyler Soll (71) and Emilio Gonzalez (76) provided the Bluejay JV scores, with Dakota Strough (127) also on the course.

PCM’s 322 won Monday’s 14-team battle at Lincoln Valley, with Norwalk (327) Grinnell (330), Nevada (331) and Boone (332) rounding out the top five. South Hamilton was sixth (334), Oskaloosa seventh (341) and Perry (350) eighth, with Bondurant-Farrar (356), West Marshall (356), East Marshall (371), South Tama County (390), Carlisle (398) and Colo-NESCO (448) also making the circuit.

Grinnell’s Lucas Scherf played bogey-free and had three birdies for an excellent 3-under 69 to win individual medalist honors, with Oskaloosa’s Spencer Tucker the runner-up at 73.

Wilkening had a 40-43–83 to lead Perry, a round which included an eagle three on the par-5 ninth hole. He finished with nine pars.

Duffy had eight pars in shooting a 41-47–88, with five pars helping Rathje card a 43-46–89 while Nielsen used four pars and a birdie to record a 46-44–90.

The Jays did not count rounds of 48-46–94 from McCarty or of 58-61–119 from Iben.

Perry will enjoy familiar surroundings for three consecutive meets. They will host Winterset Thursday before hosting the annual Bluejay Invitational Saturday. The Jays will then join the Jayettes Monday for the Witmer-Dunphy Coed Invitational.
