Perry players Mikey Velasco (17), German Alvarenga (foreground), Alexis Macias (12) and Jehovany Rivera (22) react to what appeared to be a Bluejay goal from Velasco against Des Moines East at Dewey Field April 10. The score was waved off on an offside call.

BOONE — Jesus Rodriguez found the back of the net 38 seconds into Thursday’s Raccoon River Conference match at Boone, giving Perry the only goal they would need as the Bluejays waltzed to a 6-0 victory.

“The kids played really well in some not-so-desirable conditions, as it was winder and at times somewhat chilly,” Perry head coach Gary Overla said. “We possessed (the ball) really well and were able to take advantage of our skills on the ball.”

Mikey Velasco assisted on the first Rodriguez goal, with the Perry senior’s 11th goal of the season and second of the contest unassisted.

German Alvarenga score an unassisted goal, with Brandon Juarez and Moses Tellez each scoring off of a Rodriguez assist. Velasco added a goal (assist Alexis Macias), with Ever Tobar also finding the nylon (assist Tellez and Elmer Garcia).

Alvarenga’s goal was his fourth of the year, with Velasco and Tellez each recording their second goals of the campaign while Juarez and Tobar each beat the keeper for the first time in 2017.

Rodriguez raised his season assist total to four in the victory, with Garcia, Macias, Tellez and Velasco all providing their second assists of the season.

“We were pretty much in control of the entire game and could have — should have — scored a few more times,” Overla said. “All–in-all, good team effort. Everyone who was on the bench got into the game.”

The victory lifts Perry to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in RRC action. They will return to the pitch Thursday with a trip to Indianola.
