Bluejays, Jayettes earn academic honors

Some members of the Perry Jayettes sign team posters June 21 at Youth Night. The Jayettes, as well as the Bluejay baseball team, set a fine example for local youngsters by earning academic honors this season.

Seven members of the Perry baseball team and seven from the Perry softball squad all received notice recently they had earned Raccoon River Conference All-Academic honors.

Requirements are that a player earn a varsity letter, be in grades 10-12, and post a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.

Earning recognition for the Bluejays were Gavin Boyer, Brandon Kenyon, Aaron Lockwood, Adan Medina, Andrew Pentico, Kaleb Olejniczak and Justin Stammer.

Jayettes reaching the standard included Adriana Eastman, Brooke Huntington, Rachel Kinney, Alyssa Kruger, Emma Olejniczak, Sid Vancil and Kamryn Whelchel.

In addition, the Bluejays received an IAHSAA Distinguished Academic Team Award for a cumulative GPA of 3.25-4.0. The Jayettes earned an IGHSAU Distinguished Academic Team Award with a final cumulative GPA of 3.59.

Perry baseball is coached by Mike Long, with Tina Kenney leading the softball team.
