Perry junior Janier Puente -- seen here from earlier this season -- was sharp against ADM Wednesday, throwing six frames of scoreless, two-hit ball. At right is Bluejay first baseman Austin Carpenter.

Timely hitting and the sharpest pitching of the season from Janier Puente helped Perry record a 7-0 win over ADM in Raccoon River Conference baseball Wednesday.

Perry (5-11, 3-4) received a dominant effort from Puente on Progressive Field’s mound. The junior tossed six innings of scoreless ball, yielding only two hits while walking one batter and hitting two others with pitches. He finished with six strikeouts as ADM fell to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

Perry was on the board for the first time in the third inning when Alex Garrido rapped an opposite-field double to score Adan Medina and Alex Long with the first two runs of the game. Garrido was thrown out attempting to stretch the hit into a triple.

It hardly mattered, as Puente stifled the Tiger bats. He received additional help one frame later when Kade VanKirk laced a two-out, two-strike single into right field to plate both Brandon Kenyon and Kaleb Olejniczak for a 4-0 Bluejay lead.

Two Tiger errors and an Olejniczak hit allowed three Perry runners to step on the plate in the bottom of the sixth to cap the scoring.

Perry visits Saydel tonight and is off Friday before hosting their annual tourney Saturday. The Jays will play at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with games also scheduled for 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Greene County, Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Assumption Catholic (Davenport) will also be in action Saturday.
