CARROLL — Bianca Irlbeck had 18 kills and Kristin Honold nine as Class 4A No. 10 Carroll (19-6, 3-0) scored a 3-0 win over Perry in Raccoon River Conference volleyball Tuesday. Shelby Miller distributed 31 assists for the Tigers, who won behind scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-19.

“We tried a different lineup in the first game, then switched back to our old for the rest of the match, as they are just more used to it,” Perry head coach Kristel Schultz said of her squad, who fell to 7-13 overall and 0-4 in RRC play with the loss. “We did a better job of being in the actual defensive position instead of just being in the vicinity of it tonight. I also thought we stayed positive and were much more coachable tonight.”

Sidney Vancil had 11 assists and served 8-of-9 for the Jayettes, with Taylor Lathrum serving 10-of-11 while Victoria Hegstrom provided a pair of blocks.

Grace Marburger had five kills and led the team with six digs, with Jo Diw adding five kills while Ellie Nielsen tallied four kills and two aces while serving.

Perry is off until they host Winterset Tuesday, the second consecutive week in which the team plays only once, a pace that suits Schultz.

“I like the break, because it gives us time to condition,” she said. “We have not been in the best condition and were having trouble staying low and in a ‘ready position’ for a whole match, but the extra time has helped. It also gives you a chance to work on things instead of playing a match, having only one practice and then turning around and having to play again right away.”
