The Casey’s store at 1308 First Ave. in Perry nearly became a drive-through shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday when someone jumped the curb and struck the front of the building, shattering glass and damaging brickwork at the popular gasoline retailer.

A Ford Mustang driven by Lal Vunga, 31, of 3710 57th St. in Des Moines struck the building when the driver “accidentally pushed the accelerator instead of the brake pedal,” according to Perry Police Department reports.

Terry Cregeen of Perry, longtime delivery driver for the store, said the driver of the Mustang must have “decided last second not to make it a drive-through.”
