Matt Rohe, center, new store director at the Perry Hy-Vee, welcomed fellow Perry Chamber of Commerce members to the store Friday for coffee and donuts and an update on goings on at Hy-Vee.

The Perry Hy-Vee hosted this month’s Chamber of Commerce Coffee Time, with chamber members gathering for coffee and donuts Friday morning and catching up on the latest goings on at the local retail grocery store.

After a round of introductions, the new Perry Hy-Vee store director, Matt Rohe (pronounced Roy), welcomed his fellow Chamber of Commerce members and outlined some plans for sprucing up the Hy-Vee dining area with fresh paint and new signage.

Rohe also discussed the differences between a Hy-Vee Market Grille and a Market Cafe. The grille is a full-service restaurant and bar, while the cafe offers a more limited menu and fewer alcoholic options.

With the Valentine’s Day displays fully stocked in anticipation of Tuesday’s holiday, Hy-Vee Community Events Coordinator Larry Vodenik presented an historical photograph to Jacqueline Riekena, owner of the old Woolworth’s building at Second Street and Willis Avenue in Perry.

Vodenik, who also sits on the Perry Historic preservation Commission, is an avid collector and historian of Perry’s old buildings. His photo showed what Rieken’s building looked like almost 70 years ago, when it housed Woolworth’s and Conklin Jewelry.

Chamber Coffee Times are held at 8 a.m. on the second Friday of the month. The March host will be AccuJet in Perry.
