Constance ‘Connie’ Johnston of Jefferson

Services for Constance “Connie” Johnston were held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rev. Sheldon Henderson of the Central Christian Church in Jefferson provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were Remington Safapour, Ryan Baker, Brad Ebersole, Adam Ebersole, Lyle Brinker and Dan Safapour. Interment took place at the Jefferson Cemetery.

Constance Sue “Connie” Johnston, daughter of Donel Bunn Ebersole and Maxine Lucille Francis Ebersole, was born June 10, 1944, in Jefferson, Iowa, and died Aug. 24, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Great Meadows, N.J. at the age of 72.

Connie grew up on the family farm north of Jefferson.

She graduated from Jefferson High School.

In 1962 Connie and Larry Leroy Johnston were united in marriage. The couple moved to Cooper, Iowa, for two years and then back to Jefferson. They divorced in 1982.

Connie was a dietary manager at the Jefferson Manor for many years.

She enjoyed cooking, reading and quilting. Connie was known as the “family photographer.”

She also enjoyed gardening and traveling. Connie was a former member of 4H.

She resided in Jefferson until August 2015, when she moved in with her daughter, Susan, son-in-law and grandchildren in Great Meadows.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Brenda Sue Johnston; and brother, Donel Max Ebersole.

Connie is survived by her daughter, Susan Safarpour, and her husband, Dr. Dan Safapour of Great Meadows; four grandchildren, Mercedes Safarpour (fiancé Ryan Baker), Remington, Sonia and Lea Safapour, all of Great Meadows; sister-in-law, Deann Ebersole of Jefferson; nephews, Brad (Alisha) Ebersole and Adam (Lisa) Ebersole, both of Jefferson; great-nephew, Gabe Ebersole; great-nieces, Krista, Heidi and Mckenna Ebersole, all of Jefferson; other relatives; and many friends.
