Funeral services for Dale Shipley, 92, of Perry will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 at the First Christian Church in Perry. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Murdock Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Dale’s name and may be left or sent, in care of the family, to Murdock Funeral Home.

Dale passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the Dallas County Hospital.

Dale was born Aug. 8, 1925, the son of Claude and Lillian (Johnson) Shipley in rural Minburn, Iowa.

He grew up in the Minburn and Perry area and graduated from Perry High School.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy from Nov. 24, 1943, until his Honorable Discharge May 3, 1946.

Dale married Vernas L. Johns July 8, 1949, at the First Christian Church in Perry.

Dale spent his whole life living and working in Perry. He owned and operated Loucks Auto Body Shop until his retirement.

He was proud to have been the one to paint the caboose at the corner of First and Willis avenues.

He spent countless hours gardening and loved sharing his produce with friends and neighbors.

He enjoyed traveling with Vernas, especially to his navy ship reunions. They loved to entertain and played many matches of couple’s bridge.

Back in the day, having coffee with his coffee gang was not something he wanted to miss.

Dale loved spending time with his grandson, watching him grow up.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 85 and the First Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Doug Shipley of Perry; one daughter, Janette (Stephen) Peer of West Des Moines ; one grandson, Christopher (Elisabeth) Spring of West Des Moines; and one brother, Harold (Leota) Shipley of Westminster, Colo.
