Hundreds strolled the arts and crafts booths and relaxed in the shade at Saturday’s Art in the Park event in Dallas Center.

The Metro Arts Alliance has been sponsoring Jazz in July for 35 years, and the event made its debut in Dallas Center Saturday in combination with the annual Art in the Park celebration in Mound Park.

About 50 vendors brought arts and crafts of many kinds to the marketplace, and food trucks offered bratwursts, homemade ice cream and many other delicacies. The Dallas Center Girl Scouts sold tasty desserts, and the Sugar Grove Sunshine 4-H Club sold playing cards filled with county history.

Dallas Center City Council member David Bagby greeted visitors and introduced the evening’s jazz performers, the Parranderos Latin Combo, who played from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. They followed a 40-minute performance by the Dallas Center-Grimes High School junior jazz combo.

Diversions were available for the youngsters, including a Bounce House and some motorized animals available for riding, which turned the event into a kind of Ark in the Park.
