Surgery can be scary, especially for children.

The Dallas County Hospital Foundation today announced winning a $3,000 grant from Variety-the Children’s Charity to fund a television installation project in the pediatric pre- and post-op areas of the hospital’s surgical department.

Surgery can make children scared and anxious, the announcement said, and the Dallas County Hospital Foundation will use the Variety grant dollars to buy two new televisions to help reduce anxiety levels of pediatric surgical patients by distracting them while they wait for their procedure.

“We are so thankful to Variety-the Children’s Charity for their gift,” said Donna Vandehaar, chief clinical officer at the Dallas County Hospital. “These dollars will allow us to better serve our pediatric patients and their families.”

Variety-the Children’s Charity works to improve the lives of underprivileged, at-risk and special-needs children throughout Iowa. Its grant funding is aimed at programs and initiatives that directly impact the well being of children. For more information, visit the Variety-the Children’s Charity website.
