Disaster was narrowly averted about 8 a.m. Wednesday near the North Raccoon River south of Perry when a vehicle left the roadway on County Road P58 and came to rest just before careening down the steep embankment.
Several passing motorists reported the incident to the Perry Police Department, with one caller claiming the driver of the Buick Century appeared to be intoxicated.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was notified and responded but not before the vehicle was pulled from the ditch and restored to running order. When the deputy sheriff arrived, the vehicle was gone.
