URBANDALE — Host Des Moines Christian scored with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to claim a 2-1 win over Woodward-Granger in WCAC softball Monday.

Starting pitcher Olivia Penland allowed nine hits and a walk but only one unearned run in collecting the win in the circle. She finished with three strikeouts and was her own best friend at the plate, finished with a RBI and three doubles.

Riley Jamison was the tough-luck loser for W-G. She tossed 7-1/3 innings, yielding two runs (one earned) on only six hits. The senior did not walk a batter and struck out two.

Like Penland, Jamison was her own best ally at the dish, finishing 3-for-3. Katelyn Bandstra and Kaycee Major both had two singles, with Maggi Mallon and Miranda Aunspach adding base hits.

Bandstra scored the lone Hawk run, crossing home on a Major RBI-hit.

The loss drops W-G to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in WCAC play while DMC moves to 9-6 and 4-3.

W-G hosts AC/GC tonight and will then play a varsity doubleheader at Panorama Thursday, with the first game of the twinbill to start at 5:30 p.m. All three games are WCAC contests.
