Dozer’s burned potatoes make smoky call for Perry Fire

The Perry Volunteer Fire Department and the Dallas County EMS responded to an incident about 6:15 p.m. Thursday at 1624 Estella St. in Perry.

Potatoes that burned when the cook dozed off caused heavy smoke to fill the halls of the apartment house at 1624 Estella St. Thursday about 6:15 p.m.

The report of smoke brought the Perry Volunteer Fire Department to the scene, where the fire was quickly controlled.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by the Dallas County EMS and then transported to the Dallas County Hospital.

The Perry Police Department also responded.

The eight-unit apartment house was built in 1967, according to county records. It is owned by Young Properties LLC of Grimes.

Apartments at 1624 Estella St. were briefly evacuated Thursday about 6:15 p.m. when smoke from burning food filled the halls.
