Evening house fire in rural Perry causes smoke damage

A smoking furnace at 2368 Elk Ave. in Boone County was quickly controlled Thursday night by the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.

Smoke from a fuel oil-fired furnace filled the basement of the house at 2368 Elk Ave. north of Perry Thursday night. No injuries were reported, and the Perry Volunteer Fire Department quickly controlled the smoke.

The smoking furnace was reported at 7:46 p.m., according to the Perry Police Department. The two-story structure, owned by Alice V. Johnson, according to public records, was built in 1916.
