The Society of Retired Educators (SORE), a loose association of former Perry-area teachers and fellow travelers, ventured from their usual coffeehouse confines this morning for a field trip to the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry in order to pay a social call on longtime Perry High School vocal music teacher Alan Hall.
Joining Hall for coffee and conversation were former Perry Community School District teachers Ken Finer, Roger Emmert, Tom South, Larry Blaker and Dick Ehlers, former Ogden Community School District teacher Phil Stone and auxialiry SORE members Lou Hoger, Andrew Bambrick, Gary Becker and Jim Haas.
The spirit bloweth where it listeth in meetings of the SORE membership, and the conversation as usual ranged widely today, with each member contributing stories of more or less dubious veracity. Hall’s sparkling wit, in no way dimmed by his recent illness, was met with the gentle raillery customary to the assembly’s fellowship.
Bambrick suggested Hall had brought them all together as part of a clever marketing ploy for the long-term care facility.
The event was facilitated by Rowley Masonic Community Projects Coordinator Nancy Johnson, who provided coffee, and her husband, Jeff Johnson, who baked a very tasty coffee cake.
A good time was had by Hall and all.
Mr. Hall was a vocal music teacher, not instrumental.
Thanks!
He was choir director for the high school. Not sure how many years. He also directed the choir at Methodist Church. Until recently he played piano at Masonic Home for their church services.
