Perry High School senior Amani Al-Rashid has been named to the Des Moines Register’s 2017 Academic All-State roster.
According to the newspaper, they “asked each high school in Iowa to select a senior who is among the best and the brightest – with a mixture of good grades, test scores, activities and accomplishments that made them stand out among their peers.”
With a 4.08 grade point average, the highest among the 140 seniors at PHS, Al-Rashid was nominated for her scholarship but also as a student who stands out among her peers for her achievements in community involvement and leadership.
“I made sure to buy a copy of the Sunday Des Moines Register,” said Perry Community School District Superintendent Lynn Ubben, “knowing that the Academic All-State selections would be published and Amani would be among them.”
