With a big tent rising in the Hy-Vee parking lot Wednesday in preparation for selling fireworks, preparations are also underway for Saturday's DCH/Hy-Vee free health fair.

The Dallas County Hospital and the Perry Hy-Vee will sponsor their annual free health fair Saturday, June 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hy-Vee parking lot, featuring free blood pressure checks and a variety of other free medical screenings.

The event is free and open to the public.

The LifeServe Bloob Mobile will be on hand at the Hy-Vee/DCH health fair Saturday.

“We also will have the LifeServe Blood Mobile on hand,” said Hy-Vee Community Event Coordinator Larry Vodenik. “They’ll be doing a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. You can just stop in to donate or call 515-465-5321 to reserve a time slot.”

Vodenik said Hy-Vee is also doing a promotion called, “Give a Pint, Get a Pint,” so donate one pint of blood, and receive a free pint of ice cream.

As at previous health fairs, DCH staff will be on hand, drawing blood, checking blood pressure and offering body-fat analysis and balance tests. Information and training will also be available in hands-free CPR, mammograms, dental education, care coordination, physical therapy and other health services.

At previous fairs, Parks and Recreation Director John Anderson and Assistant Director Becky Halling Towers have offered information on healthy activities for Perry-area consumers.

Vodenik even challenged Perry’s media to donate blood and “get a photo with one of your own while they donate.” ThePerryNews.com will line up to give its pints of blood and might even throw in a pound of flesh for good measure.
