Congratulations! Becoming a parent is joyful, scary, exciting, worrisome and surprising.

But why get semi-correct information on You Tube when you can ask an expert in person?

Partners in Family Development, the Dallas County Hospital and the Dallas County Public Health Department will offer a free prenatal class for expectant parents at the hospital in Perry starting Wednesday, March 8.

The classes cover prenatal care, stress during pregnancy and what to avoid during pregnancy. Other subjects include the facts on labor and delivery and caring for your baby.

There is no shortage of advice on these topics, so it’s smart to get straight information from an expert. This prenatal class at the Dallas County Hospital will be facilitated by professionals, including a registered nurse, medical social worker and a registered dietician.

The class uses a bilingual English/Spanish curriculum designed for expecting parents in a supportive group setting of six sessions. Participants will receive gifts for their baby at each class.

Anyone who attends all six sessions will be given a new infant car seat at the last session.

This free prenatal class is for moms and dads who live in Dallas County. Classes are Wednesdays 10:30 a.m. to noon beginning March 8 (no class March 15.) Call 515-993-3750 to register.

Ann Cochran is the Health Navigation Coordinator at the Dallas County Public Health Department.
