Centennial Park in Granger was busy Friday and Saturday with the 2015 Granger Days festivities, with Friday’s storms dampening the grounds but not the spirits of the townspeople, visitors and vendors.
This year’s annual two-day celebration was packed dense with activities too numerous to list but highlighted during the days by kid-friendly events such as the Flying Houndz Frizbee Trick Dog Show and a NASCAR simulator and at night by Tim and Sue Harney’s beer tent and live music by Toaster on Friday and Storm Warning on Saturday.
Vendor Village was filled with arts and crafts and unique items for sale, such as the women’s apparel at LuLaroe Amy Sonntag, a Grimes outlet selling garments in the village.
“Business has been good,” said Amy Sonntag Saturday afternoon, when the sun was at its warmest and the beer tent at its mellowest. Sonntag had her 3-month-old daughter Kendall in tow, and she attracted interested passersby almost as much as Sonntag’s skirts and blouses.
Food is usually center stage at community festivals, and Granger Days was no exception, boasting five vendors over the two days, including the Hotel Pattee from Perry.
Hotel Pattee owner Jay Hartz was assisted Saturday by his daughter Desiree and cook Kevin Lopez of Perry. Hartz said he was trying out his new machine for making ribbon fries.
“Business has been great,” Hartz said, “and people seem to really love these ribbon fries.” The fries are similar to potato chips but very thin and cooked in a light vegetable oil. When taken fresh, they are very tasty.
That’s what’s up. That was a wonderful event.
