WOODWARD — Four players scored in double-digits as a hot-shooting Woodward-Granger boys basketball team nipped WCV, 70-69, in their season and WCC opener Tuesday.

The Hawks hit 28-of-54 shots, including 7-of-15 on 3-point shots, while doing just enough damage at the foul line (7-of-12) to secure the victory.

The game was tight throughout, with W-G leading, 14-12, after one period and trailing, 30-28, at the half. The teams were locked in a 48-all tie entering the final quarter, with the Hawks pulling out the win.

Senior Brady Aunspach led the way for the hosts with 15 points, with freshmen Reese Jamison and Bryce Achenbach adding 11 and 10 points, respectively, while senior Bodie Harrison provided 10 points. Brody Easter and Cameron Hoyt had six points apiece, with Derick Morgan and Marcus McConahay scoring four points each while baskets from J.P. Nixon and Matt Buch capped the scoring.

Easter and Hoyt each had a pair of 3-pointers, with Achenbach, Jamison and Aunspach also hitting from behind the arc.

Achenbach capped his well-rounded effort with six reboudns, nine assists and three steals, with Aunspach pulling down five boards and Morgan four.

The Hawks host Martensdale-St. Marys Thursday before visiting Des Moines Christian Friday. Both are girls/boys sets beginning with the girls game at 6 p.m.
