GUTHRIE CENTER — A scheduling conflict forced W-G to reschedule a Tuesday outing with Ogden, leaving Thursday’s road tilt at AC/GC to serve as the season opener for the Hawks.

Apparently the Hawk batters were just a little tired of waiting around, as 15 hits helped plate 10 runs in a 10-3 victory.

“The bottom of our lineup really did the damage for us tonight,” W-G head coach Noah Bean said. “Kayley Dresback, Alexis Bixler, Alissa Smeltzer and Katelyn Bandstra were constantly getting on base on putting pressure on them (AC/GC) and that kept us turning our lineup over.”

Bandstra was 3-for-4, with Smelzter adding a double to a base hit while driving in four runs and scoring three times. Kaycee Major also had a double for W-G, who benefited from six Charger errors along the way.

W-G scored four times in the second and AC/GC twice, but three Hawk tallies in the fourth and one in the sixth opened an 8-2 gap. The guests scored twice and the hosts once in the seventh frame to complete the scoring.

Riley Jamison collected the win in the ring. She allowed three runs (one earned) in seven innings of four-hit softball. The senior walked two batters and finished with four strikeouts.

W-G will play Wayne, Seymour and Centerville, at 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, at the Centerville tourney Saturday. The Hawks host Madrid Tuesday, Southeast Valley Thursday and Bondurant-Farrar June 2 before making their first appearance at the Charles City Tourney June 3.
