Bryce Achenbach puts the ball in play for W-G last season. The freshman was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs Wednesday.

GRANGER — Visiting Webster City refused to go away Wednesday, but host Woodward-Granger insisted the Lynx do just that, and, in the end, the Hawks were the team to have their way.

W-G rallied three times to take a lead in Wednesday’s non-conference baseball meeting, with the final surge enough to lift the hosts to a 10-6 victory.

Webster City led, 3-1, after one frame, with W-G scoring three times in the second for a 4-3 lead. The Lynx then scored twice in the third to retake the lead at 5-4, but the Hawks scored twice in the fifth to put themselves in front, 6-5.

The visitors tied the game with a single tally in the sixth, but the Hawks put an end to any further dramatics on their own diamond by plating four runs in the sixth and then avoiding damage in the top of the seventh for a 10-6 victory.

Reese Jamison was given the start and went three frames on the bump, yielding five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two. Matt Rhodes collected the win in four innings of relief. He was touched for an unearned run on three hits and a walk while recording eight strikeouts.

Cole Theisen was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and a RBI for the hosts, with Bryce Achenbach 2-for-3 with a double and two runs driven in. Matt Buch aided the winning cause with a two-base hit and two runs scored.

W-G is at AC/GC tonight and will host Southwest Valley Friday.
