Matt Rhodes plays third base as Reese Jamison pitches for Woodward-Granger in the first of two games against Panorama June. The duo have each driven in 37 runs this season, a new school record.

GRANGER — Race to a 22-0 start and it is a fair bet school season records will be imperiled along the way, and such was the case Thursday as W-G thumped WCV, 15-5 in five innings and 20-3 in four frames of a WCAC doubleheader.

In the process, senior Matt Rhodes and freshman Reese Jamison both reached 37 RBIs for the season, breaking the old W-G mark of 36 set by Joe Summers in 2006. Senior Spencer Hanson (28) and junior Cole Theisen (25) are fair bets to best Summers’ old standard as well, whether their teammates remain out of reach or not.

Theisen had a double, a triple and a RBI in the first game while also scoring twice. Hanson had a RBI-triple, and Austin Scharlau and Bryce Achenbach two-run doubles apiece while Marcus McConahay finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

Brandon Worley yielded five runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks in earning the win on the mound. He finished with three strikeouts.

The second game was even more lopsided, with W-G (22-0, 15-0) scoring 12 times in the top of the first en route to a football-like 20-3 win.

Rhodes and Jamison were each 4-for-4, with the pair scoring three runs apiece. Jamison had a double and five RBIs and Rhodes four RBIs. Theisen contributed a single and a triple and drove in three runs to help highlight the 18-run attack.

Theisen tossed 2-2/3 innings of scoreless ball, walking one batter and striking out another. Jay Dorenkamp pitched 1-1/3 frames of relief, yielding three runs (one earned) on one walk while striking out one.

Statistics from WCV (11-8, 9-6) were not available.

W-G will be tested by a red-hot Winterset (9-9) team tonight in Madison County. The Huskies have won five straight and six of their last seven.
