Helen Pauline Fogelson, 88, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at Iles Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29 at First Presbyterian Church of Grimes, with burial at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes.

Helen was born Aug. 7, 1926, in Grimes to Carl T. and Cecile F. Bauman.  She grew up on the family’s Century Farm outside of Grimes and graduated from Johnston High School.

On June 6, 1953, she married the love of her life, Jack Fogelson, of Des Moines, whom she called “Hun Bun,” and they settled in Des Moines.  To this union one daughter was born.  In 1976 the family moved to Johnston, where she resided until her death.

Helen worked as a file clerk for Farm Bureau and became a homemaker after the birth of their daughter.

She enjoyed reporting the weather, playing Bingo, and most of all, spending time with her family.  She was a ray of sunshine that brightened every life she touched and was loved by all.

She is survived by her daughter, Janette (Bill) Thede, of Granger; two grandchildren, Jordan Thede and Caitlin Thede, both of Granger; sister, Marilyn (Bob) Finney, of West Des Moines; sister-in-law, Betty Elliott; brothers-in-law, Dale Fogelson and Larry (Margaret) Fogelson, both of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Harriet Fogelson, of Mountain Home, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Barb Hodge of Fairfield, Iowa; honorary daughter, Angel (Joe) Kifer, of Des Moines and their daughter, Megan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jack; her parents, Carl and Cecile Bauman; brothers-in-law, Don Fogelson, Jerry Fogelson, John Robert Fogelson, George Elliott and Earl Hodge; and sisters-in-law, Mary Hodge and Nancy Fogelson.
