Services for Helen Tierney, 88, of Perry, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20 at the First Christian Church in Perry, with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Musician will be Donna Emmert, and musical selections will be “Old Rugged Cross,” “Amazing Grace” and “Here I Am Lord.” Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, with the family receiving friends from 5–7 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home.

Helen passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Helen Irene Witter was born in Dawson, Iowa, Aug. 5, 1926, the only child of Bernard D. and Anna (Hight) Witter. She graduated from Perry High School in 1943. She married P. Thomas Tierney July 6, 1957 in Perry.

Helen worked for the Perry Community School District from 1968 until her retirement in 1993 as a school secretary. She was a member of PEO chapter DE, Torchbearer Gamma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and First Christian Church in Perry.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1972; sister-in-law, Mary Tierney, in 2010; and Anna Williams.

Survivors include her son, Tom (Nancy) Tierney of Dawson, Iowa; two daughters, MaryAnn (Kevin) Dunleavy of Fairfax, Va. and Nancy (Brian) Anstoetter of West Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Patrick Tierney, Emily Nemeth, Trish Anderson Haynes, Paige Dunleavy, Grace Dunleavy, Ben Anstoetter, Joe Anstoetter and Jack Anstoetter; and seven great grandchildren: Jackson Tierney, Grant Tierney, Pierce Tierney, Elaina Nemeth, Ariana Nemeth, Natalie Haynes and Logan Haynes; two nephews, Mike Williams of Palms Springs, Calif., and Barry (Bonnie) Williams of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; one niece, Moira (Karl) Killefer of Palm Springs, Calif.; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to the First Christian Church in Perry and Blank Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Online condolences may be left at murdockfuneralhome.net.
