A medical emergency at the boys basketball practice Wednesday has resulted in a W-G student being Life-flighted to a Des Moines hospital.

WOODWARD — Southeast Valley responded to a game-tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning Monday with a game-winning run in the top of the seventh to hand host Woodward-Granger their fourth consecutive loss, 4-3, in a non-conference contest.

W-G (2-4) struggled offensively in three games at the Centerville Tournament over the weekend and those woes continued Monday, head coach Noah Bean said.

“We are just not seeing the ball real well right now,” he noted. “The pitching and defense have not been great, but they have been good enough. It is time for the offense to come through and help out.”

The Jaguars (4-2) scored a run in their first at-bat, but the hosts countered with two tallies in the bottom of the first to snatch a 2-1 lead.

Single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings but the guest back in front, 3-2, but the Hawks tied the game when Kendra Husmann doubled, was bunted to second and scored when Bree Lesch’s hustle down the line forced a defensive miscue at first base in the home half of the sixth.

Unfortunately the Hawks could not answer a single run in the seventh by the guests and suffered the loss.

Riley Jamison allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while going the distance in the circle.

Husmann added a single to her double and scored twice, with Lesch and Alison Soelberg providing base hits. Lesch had all three RBIs, with courtesy runner Josie Baumgartner scoring once for the hosts.

Natalie Lambert earned the win in the ring. She yielded three runs (all unearned) on four hits and a walk while recording seven strikeouts.

W-G visits Van Meter tonight and Ogden Thursday for a pair of WCC contests.
