The Perry girls soccer team lifted their record to 6-10 overall while dropping Atlantic to 6-10 as well with a 4-0 blanking of the Trojanns at Dewey Field Wednesday.

Seniors Glenda Cruz, Olivia Herrera and Erica Tenold were playing their final home game for the Jayettes, and Cruz was the first of four Perry players to score when she beat the keeper on an unassisted goal in the 27th minute.

Sydney Guerra scored her team-best 10th goal 10 minutes later on a pass from Mariah McNamara for a 2-0 Perry lead at the intermission.

Guerra fed Mariah Duffy for a goal in the 72nd minute for a 3-0 lead, with KC Gafkjen’s eighth goal of the season less than a minute later off a Grace Marburger assist capping the scoring.

Perry goalie Amparo Menendez made six saves to record her fourth shutout of the year.

“The girls played really hard tonight and it is evident that they are taking the concepts and skills we are putting in during practice and showing them on the field,” assistant coach Fred Niebaum said. “This was a good boost for us going into our regional game at Des Moines Hoover — a good confidence booster.”

The Jayettes will face the host Huskies Friday at 6 p.m., with the winner traveling to ADM Tuesday for a regional semifinal. Hoover (10-7) scored a 1-0 win over host Perry in the third game of the year for both teams.
