Perry's Vivian Gonzalez will return to the pool for her senior season after missing all of last year with an injury.

Veteran head coach Jean Dowd cannot remember the last time her Perry girls swim team hosted five meets in the same season, but she is not complaining.

“There have been some years where we have been home only three times, so this is a nice change,” she said during a Thursday interview. “Hopefully we will have a good crowd show up and cheer the girls on.”

The Jayettes begin their 2017 campaign with two meets at the MCB pool. Perry hosts Algona August 24, with Indianola the guest August 29.

Amanda Holwenger puts in her laps during Thursday’s practice.

New this year is the inclusion of any interested Panorama students to the team as part of a new sharing agreement between the schools.

Perry will receive the services of Panther freshen Skekynah Haworth and Amanda Holwenger, both familiar faces to many of the Jayettes, as the duo swims during the cold months with PAWS (Perry Area Winter Swimmers).

Check back next week for a complete preview of the upcoming swim season.
