Perry's Emma Olejncizak (5), Rachel Kinney (13) and Alyssa Kruger (12) listen to head coach Tina Kenney during a timeout in a contest earlier this season. Perry finishes the regular season 25-10 and will host a regional semifinal Saturday.

Emma Olejniczak tossed a one-hitter and the Jayette offense did just enough at just the right time to carry Class 4A No. 10 Perry past visiting Pella at the PAC Monday.

The game was the final regular season action for the Dutch (6-28) as well as the Jayettes, who enter the postseason 25-10. Perry was 25-14 while placing sixth at the state tourney last season.

Olejniczak struck out 12 and walked none while facing just one batter over the minimum, as Kinzi VanWyk spoiled the perfect game with a double in the fourth inning.

Sid Vancil walked and scored on an Alyssa Kruger double as Perry grabbed a 1-0 lead after one inning.

The margin moved to 2-0 when Rachel Kinney singled, stole second and raced home on an Olejniczak base hit in the fourth.

Grace Stewart drew a bases-on-balls in the sixth inning and raced all the way around to score when Jo Diw stroked a triple to the fence. Vancil followed with a RBI ground out, pushing the lead to 4-0, where it remained.

Perry awaits the winner of Thursday’s Class 4A Region 3 First Round game between Webster City (8-15) and host Waverly-Shell Rock (22-17). The victor will be Perry’s guest Saturday.

The bottom half of the bracket has Pella (6-28) visiting Norwalk (17-20) Thursday, with the winner traveling to No. 9 Carlisle (24-14) Saturday.

The Region 3 Final will be played July 11 at the highest remaining seed. All games will start at 7 p.m.
