Jefferson Police Report April 6-9

April 6, 2017

  • Michael Godwin reported being harassed by Ashley Lowmiller. An officer is investigating.
  • An officer was requested by the Iowa Department of Human Services to assist in a child abuse investigation. Both departments are working together to continue the investigation.
  • Dottie Aldridge reported her son being harassed by another juvenile.
  • As a result of a traffic stop at the intersection of N. Grimmell Road and 220th Street, Derek Ott, 35, of Jefferson was arrested on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for failure to appear for a charge of third-degree theft.
  • An officer responded to 402 W. Russell Street for an open burning complaint. As a result, Alysha Steece, 39, was issued a citation for a city ordinance violation for open burning restrictions.
  • As a result of a traffic stop in the 500 block of W. Russell Street, Jerald Deal of Jefferson was issued a citation for operating a non-registered vehicle.
  • David Ausenberger reported kids riding their bikes on 220th Street.
  • As a result of a complaint and investigation, Pamela Haakma of Jefferson was issued a citation for unlawful passing of a school bus that occurred April 5 at 2 p.m. at the intersection of N. Wilson Avenue and E. McKinley Street.

April 7, 2017

  • An officer investigated a wo-vehicle property damage accident at High and Monroe streets. Nancy Carhill of Jefferson was traveling east on W. Monroe Street in her 2005 Mercury Mariner. At the intersection of Monroe and High streets, Carhill’s vehicle collided with a vehicle that was traveling northbound on High Street. The 2004 Saturn was owned and operated by Delaney Gibson of Jefferson. The Carhill vehicle had a reported $1,000 in damages, and the Gibson vehicle had a reported $5,000 in damages and was towed from the scene. Carhill was issued a citation for failure to yield to vehicle on the right.
  • Officers took a burglary report from 911 W. Washington St. The owner said he witnessed a person near the residence March 28 but did not notice anything missing until April 7. Jewelry was taken from the residence. The officer is investigating.
  • Dottie Aldridge reported that her juvenile son was receiving harassing text messages from another male juvenile.
  • Aimee Aldeman reported criminal mischief occurring to her vehicle at 508 N. Locust St. The vehicle had nails placed behind the tires and appeared to have sugar poured in the fuel tank. An officer is investigating.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Lincoln Way and Vine Street, resulting in April Hopkins of Jefferson being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • An unknown caller advised of barking dogs at 305 W. South St. An officer made contact with the animal’s owner and spoke to her about the complaint.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1400 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Nicole Olson of Moorland being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Dottie Aldridge reported being threatened and harassed by a known female while working at a local gaming hall. The officer viewed video footage of the event. An arrest warrant request was made for Anjanette Stephany Forkner, 45, of Scranton for second-degree harassment.
  • Daniel Rivera reported a stray cat attempting to get into his residence at 303 S. High St. An officer placed the animal in the Animal Holding Facility.

April 8, 2017

  • A traffic stop was performed in the 300 block of N. Grimmell Road, resulting in Robert Thoma Jr. of Scranton being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Lincoln Way and Vine Street, resulting in April Hopkins of Jefferson being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Elm Street and Lincoln Way, resulting in Elizabeth Lindgren of Jefferson being issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Grimmell Road and Central Street, resulting in Gabriel Olson of Paton being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • An officer checked on a fire alarm at the GCMC, 1000 W. Lincoln Way St. The officer found an air compressor in the basement had a mechanical problem and had burnt the rubber belt in half. No fire occurred.
  • A caller from a local ice cream store said they received a phone scam call at the business. The caller said he was working on an audit of the business and directed workers to place $847.17 in a bank account immediately. No loss occurred.
  • Ed Miller advised of barking dogs at 305 W. South St. The officer spoke to the owner of the animals, who said Miller parks next to her fence and honks until her dogs begin to bark.
  • Beth Joy requested officers at her residence at 202 W. Adams St. Joy said she located two firearms in the residence that do not belong there. She believed a male person staying at the residence may have stolen the firearms. The officer later spoke to the suspect, who advised he stole the firearms from a vehicle in Jefferson. The officer is working to determine who the owner of the firearms is. Future charges are pending.
  • Officers were called to a local gaming hall for the theft of a wallet. Someone left her wallet on a gaming machine and walked away. A female sat down at the machine and placed the wallet in her purse. Security staff pulled video of the event and asked the female to wait for officers. The victim in the matter was not supportive of criminal charges and just wanted her purse back.
  • Bruce Binkley reported his grandson was threatened by a known male at Russell Park. The officer made contact with the person at the park. Binkley arrived and said he was mistaken, and the male was not involved.
  • A local gas station reported a gas drive off occurring at 303 N. Elm St. A male pumped fuel and went inside to purchase other items. The clerk did not charge the person for the fuel. An officer recognized the person and contacted him by phone. He said he would return and pay for the fuel.
  • Jill Johnson reported a stray dog at 402 S. Wilson Ave. An officer determined the animal’s owner by checking the city license tag and returned it to the owner.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Harrison and Wilson streets, resulting in Kyle Coffman of Minburn being issued a citation for failure to obey stop sign.

April 9, 2017

  • While on patrol, an officer noticed a juvenile male walking in the 300 block of N. Elm Street. The officer knew the person to be under curfew age and approached him. Nicholas Scott Weber, 16, of Jefferson, was issued a citation for curfew violation.
  • An officer assisted with a medical call in the 600 block of S. Olive Street.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Harrison and Elm streets, resulting in Kurtis Bednarik of Jefferson being issued a citation for dark windows.
  • An officer witnessed a male driving a vehicle at Lincoln Way and Wilson Avenue who he knew to be barred from driving in Iowa. The officer spoke to the male at a later point and advised him he would be charged. The officer has applied for an arrest warrant for Mark Henry Morrow, 56, of Jefferson for driving while barred–aggravated.
  • Michael Hamilton requested officers at 406 1/2 E. State St. for a civil property dispute.
  • David Cannon spoke with an officer concerning a civil child custody issue occurring at 409 N. Maple St.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 900 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Ashley Rockwell of Carroll being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Suesitta Smith said her son backed form the driveway at 407 E. State St. and struck a power pole across the street. Alliant Energy arrived and determined no damage occurred to the pole. The 2008 Chrysler Town and Country Van was not damaged. Ian Schmitt was issued a citation for unsafe backing upon a highway.
  • Bob Hurley reported he learned a package ordered on Amazon was delivered to his residence April 7, but he had not located the package. He believed someone removed the package from his porch at 313 S. West St.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
