  • While conducting business door checks, an officer located an open door at 100 N. Elm St.
  • An officer located an open overhead door at 1801 N. Elm St.
  • Ann Sayre requested officers to 102 E. Washington St. for issues with a grown daughter living at the residence. Officers mediated the issue, and the daughter advised she would stay elsewhere for the evening. While in the residence, an officer located a metal smoking device in plain sight on a coffee table. The item was taken into evidence and will be lab tested for the presence of marijuana. Charges pending lab results.
  • Kimberly Lentz reported a neighbor’s dog got off the leash and approached her in a menacing fashion. An officer spoke to the animal’s owner, who showed the officer the broken leash. She was given a verbal warning for an animal running at large.
  • Mary Schneider reported she struck a deer south of Jefferson on Iowa Highway 4. She said the deer was still alive and on the roadway. An officer dispatched the deer and removed it from the roadway.
  • Michael Godwin requested an officer to conduct a welfare check on his roommate at 303 S. Grimmell Road. An officer made contact with the male, who said he was fine.
  • An officer located an open door at 800 E. Lincoln Way.
  • A request has been made by an officer for an arrest warrant for Aaron Joseph Skalla, 26, of Jefferson for assault causing bodily injury. The request for the warrant comes after the officer investigated a complaint from Karah Brown, who claimed Skalla assaulted her at 500 S. Maple St. March 4. Skalla refused to speak to officers after numerous requests to do so.
  • The investigation into empty deposit envelopes placed into the ATM and cash removed from the account at People’s Bank is now complete. The bank reported three thefts to an officer March 8. Arrest warrants have been requested for Derek Eugene Ott, 35, of Jefferson for third-degree theft. Ott received $500.cash from the ATM on three occasions after placing an empty envelope in the ATM during deposits.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
