March 24, 2017

  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1200 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Spencer Burley of Jefferson being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Stacia Baugh requested assistance from an officer in a civil property dispute at 102 E. Washington St.
  • A Greene County Community School bus driver brought a school bus violation report to an officer. The violation report said a vehicle passed a stopped school bus in the 100 block of N. Cedar Street, and it provided a description of the vehicle and the driver. The officer’s investigation led to William McClure of Jefferson being issued a citation for unlawful passing of a school bus.
  • Officers were advised by a male that his mother planned on committing suicide by stepping in front of a train. His mother left the residence in her vehicle a few moments prior to the son’s report. Officers began searching for the female, and a Greene County Deputy Sheriff located the mother sitting in her vehicle near the Kirkwood Avenue railroad crossing about 1809 hours. She was taken to Greene County Hospital for evaluation by a medical doctor.
  • Bobby Hunt of Churdan requested that an officer document that his ex-wife did not show up for a civil child custody exchange.
  • Ryan Brown reported a neighbor’s dog was running loose in the 100 block of N. Walnut Street. The officer found the animal at home inside its residence and could take no action.
  • An officer was requested at the Greene County Middle School for an unruly student. The student left the facility before the officer’s arrival.
  • Petra Dawson reported a deer was struck and remained in the roadway in the 1200 block of S. Elm Street. The officer dispatched the deer and removed it from the roadway.
  • Crystal Johns reported the theft of $32 from her juvenile daughter while attending a function at 401 S. Wilson Ave. An officer is investigating the claim.

March 25, 2017

  • An officer checked on a building that had lights on at the Greene County Community High School football field. All was fine, and the officer turned out the lights and secured the door.
  • An officer checked on a vehicle parked in the 200 block of E Lincoln Way. The owner of the vehicle arrived a few minutes later and said he ran out of gas. He removed the vehicle from the area.
  • An officer spoke with a male who was sleeping in his vehicle in the 100 block of E. Harrison Street. The male advised he was in town for a woodworking class.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Elm Street and Lincoln Way, resulting in Brittany Bowman of Jefferson being issued a citation for failure to obey a stop/yield sign.
  • An officer checked on a business alarm activation at 219 E. Lincoln Way. A worker had tripped the alarm.
  • An officer checked on a 911 hang-up call from 702 N. Cedar St. The couple said they were having a verbal argument, but all was fine now. The officer did not see anything to lead him to doubt what they said.
  • An officer performed a funeral escort.
  • An officer assisted a motorist with vehicle problems in the 1600 block of N. Elm Street.
  • An officer assisted a resident with removing a bird from the residence at 500 N. Chestnut St.
  • Officers were requested at 209 E. Gallop Road for a family dispute. The officers were able to assist in calming the parties.
  • Chiara Anderson spoke with an officer about receiving harassing text messages from a juvenile male in Jefferson. No action was requested from the officer at this time.
  • Nick Miller reported a careless driver traveling south towards Jefferson on Iowa Highway. 4. An officer did not locate the reported vehicle.
  • After witnessing a vehicle failing to stop at the posted stop sign at W. Lincoln Way and Grimmell Road, an officer performed a traffic stop in the 900 block of W. Madison Street. While speaking with the driver, the officer detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer performed a probable-cause search of the vehicle and located narcotics, narcotic-related items and cash. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Stephen Arthur Molle, 21, of Jefferson for possession of a controlled substance/marijuana, possession of a controlled substance violation/intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. Molle was also issued a citation for failure to obey stop sign.

March 26, 2017

  • Josh Schmidt reported a light on in a garage in the 100 block of W. Wilcox Way. The owners of the residence are known to be out of state. An officer searched the garage and did not see anything out of place. The officer secured the garage.
  • An officer located an unsecured storage unit at 408 E. Highway 30. All appeared fine inside the unit.
  • Security staff at the Wild Rose Casino requested an officer at 777 Wild Rose Lane for a person entering vehicles in the parking lot. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Chantelle Lee Wolf, 33, of Rhodes, Iowa, for two counts of attempted third-degree burglary.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 700 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Debra Adams of Glidden being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Kelly Whiton reported a lost or stolen Iowa Driver’s License at 777 Wild Rose Lane on the previous evening.
  • Brandi Hicks spoke with an officer concerning a civil child custody issue occurring in Fort Dodge.
  • Sherri Conley spoke with an officer concerning her vehicle. Her daughter was driving the vehicle and was arrested overnight from the Casino at 777 Wild Rose Lane. Conley believed her daughter’s boyfriend might have taken the van after the arrest of her daughter. The officer learned the van was indeed located in Rhodes, Iowa, and he forwarded the information to Conley.
  • Rachel Winkleman reported neighborhood children playing “roughly” with younger kids. An officer did not locate anyone in the area when he arrived.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 100 block of N. Grimmell Road.

March 27, 2017

  • An officer is investigating a reported hit-and-run accident in the 200 block of N. Elm Street. A 2003 Chevrolet Impala, owned by Heidi Geisler and operated by Grace Geisler of Churdan, was southbound in the 200 block of S. Elm Street and reported a gray passenger car was in the inside lane beside the vehicle. Geisler said the gray car turned into her lane, striking the front left corner of her vehicle. The gray vehicle continued across the traffic lanes and turned west into the 300 block of W. State Street. An officer located gray paint transfered on the Geisler vehicle. The officer estimated $1,000 in damages occurred to the Geisler vehicle. The investigation continues.
  • Employees of the Jefferson Public Works Department reported the theft of water metering devices from 304 W. Reed St. The missing city-owned device is valued at $110. An officer is investigating.
  • Officers assisted in a civil property exchange at 601 S. Chestnut St.
  • An officer began a burglary investigation at 108 S. Walnut St. Occupants advised that on March 26, someone entered the locked property and removed items. The officer located and removed evidence from the residence and is still investigating.
  • Tim Cadden reported a known subject withdrew money from Cadden’s bank account without his permission. The officer is investigating.
  • Officers assisted a motorist by pushing the motorist’s stalled vehicle from the roadway at Lincoln Way and Elm Street.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Vine and Washington streets, resulting in Joseph Romeo of Jefferson being issued a citation for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
  • During a traffic stop at State and Olive streets, an officer learned a female passenger had several Greene County arrest warrants. The officer arrested Raquel June Strennen, 32, of Jefferson on three failure-to-appear warrants on traffic citations.
  • Paul Nelson reported a possible violation of a no-contact order at 300 S. Pinet St. An officer responded to the area but could not locate the violator.
  • An officer performed a traffic stop in the 500 block of W. Adams Street and learned the driver had an outstanding arrest warrant. The officer arrested Derek Eugene Ott, 35, of Jefferson on a Greene County Sheriff’s office arrest warrant for burglary.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
