Jefferson Police Report May 19-21

May 19, 2017

  • Chris Huggett of St. Bonifacius, Minn., spoke with an officer concerning a civil issue in Jefferson. Huggett said people in town were holding his animal until he pays them for surgeries the animal had and they paid for. He was advised to contact his attorney.
  • An officer performed a funeral escort.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 500 block of E. Lincoln Way, resulting in Sealeana Smith of Grand Junction being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Phyliss Crowder reported receiving a scam phone call. She said the caller claimed he was with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and would have her arrested if she did not pay back taxes. Crowder ended the call and did not incur a loss.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 200 block of N. Olive Street, resulting in Michael Christopher Sims of Jefferson being issued a citation for driving while suspended, failure to provide proof of financial liability and operation without registration.
  • Dean Ross reported the theft of a moldboard plow from 605 E. Adams St. Ross did not know how long the item had been missing.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1100 block of N. Mulberry Street, resulting in Mikayla Wenger of Boone being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • Natalie Casey requested an officer at 303 S. Grimmell Road. She said she and her boyfriend no longer wanted their dog. The officer informed her that the Jefferson Police Department is not a pet service and would not take the animal. The officer advised them to contact an animal shelter.
  • Jennifer Brown requested an office to speak with her unruly teenage daughter at 1003 W. Wall St. An officer spoke to the juvenile with her mother present to help calm the issue.

May 20, 2017

  • An officer located an open business door at 250th Street and Neola Avenue. A key holder was contacted to secure the property.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 200 block of W. Gallop Road.
  • An officer was called to the Greene County Hospital emergency room for a dog bite. The officer spoke to Eric Gustin, who said a brown dog entered his property at 309 N. Maple St. and began to fight with his dog. He attempted to break up the fight and was bitten on the hand and forearm by the stray. He could not provide a description of the dog to the officer and said he could not tell the dog that bit him from any other animal. The officer searched the area but did not locate the animal.
  • An officer removed debris from the roadway at 220th Street and Iowa Highway 4.
  • Sydney Cruz said a male in dark clothing was walking near the roadway at Elm and 220th streets. An officer responded but did not locate the person.
  • Titus Brown requested an officer to help with a dispute between him and his juvenile son concerning a cell phone. An officer assisted in calming the issue for the evening.

May 21, 2017

  • Brittany Smith requested an officer at 304 N. Chestnut St. for an unwanted male at the residence. The unwanted person left without incident upon the arrival of an officer.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 400 block of W. Lincoln Way, resulting in John McConnell of Jefferson being issued a citation for dark windows.
  • An officer checked on an abandoned 911 call from 308 E. Vest St. All was fine.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1500 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Sara Miller of Rockwell City being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1300 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Dalton Weber of Jefferson being issued a citation for dark windows.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 400 block of W. Washington Street, resulting in Allen Hanley of Bussey being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • A local motel requested an officer at 207 W. Gallop Road for a male who was trespassing. The trespasser left the area before an officer arrived.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
