GRIMES — Lane closures on Iowa Highway 141 will affect travel in each direction beginning Monday and lasting until late October, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT).

The lane closures will stretch from Iowa Highway 44 to S.E. 37th Street in Grimes.

Traffic will be impacted along the two-mile stretch of state highway, including:

  • Southbound Iowa Highway 141, where both lanes of traffic will be open weekday mornings from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Northbound Iowa Highway 141, where both lanes of traffic will be open weekday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Side roads, which will be closed during work at intersections, and detours will be in place.

The DOT said motorists should expect travel delays and should allow additional time to reach their destination.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution during the construction period, to obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.

As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts, according to the DOT.

Current latest traveler information is available anytime through DOT’s 511 system. Visit the department’s website or call 511 within Iowa or 800-288-1047 nationwide.
