Lela Grubbs, 92, of Des Moines and formerly of Redfield passed away Monday, May 1, 2017, at the UnityPoint Health Methodist in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6 prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Yale.

Memorials will be given to Perry Public Library and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Lela Marie Grubbs was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Adel, Iowa, to Vernon Lloyd and Ruth Irene (Brooker) Brubaker.

She attended school in Adel, graduating with the class of 1942.

Lela was united in marriage to Russell Grubbs at her parents’ home Sept. 15, 1945.

She did acetylene torch welding at Solar Aircraft during World War II.

Lela was a member of the Shiloh Bible Church in Dawson.

She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, cooking and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Grubbs; parents, Vernon and Irene Brubaker; a brother, Bill Brubaker; and a sister, Vera Flinn.

Lela is survived by her son, Warren (Debbie) Grubbs of Des Moines; grandson, Ryan (Carrie) Grubbs of Guthrie, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Jailynn Aase and Kennedy and Cameron Grubbs; sister, Mary Flinn of Cumming, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
