July 17, 2017

  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department on a medical call in the 500 block of W. Second Street.
  • An officer received a call about young children driving a lawnmower on the roadway on Delander Street and pulling other young children in a wagon. The officer was unable to locate the children in the area.
  • An officer was dispatched to a semi-tractor trailer traveling northbound on Iowa Highway 17 that reportedly hit the shoulder a few times. The officer followed the vehicle for two miles and never saw an issue with its driving.
  • An officer received a complaint about a yard needing mowing at Eighth and Washington streets. The officer found the yard was not in violation of the city ordinance but will speak to the property owners about better upkeep.
  • An officer fingerprinted a Madrid resident for a job-related background check.
  • An officer met with a Madrid resident who turned over a pair of glasses found on the trail.
  • An officer was dispatched to a vehicle traveling southbound on Iowa Highway 17 and reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.
  • An officer took a report of an erratic driver travelling south into Madrid on Iowa Highway 17. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle in question.
  • An officer took a report of fraud regarding someone at a Check into Cash facility. The officer followed up with the business and determined it was an internal error made when information was put into their computer for a loan. The error was already corrected by the time the report was made.
  • An officer assisted two residents with gaining access to their residence after they had locked themselves out.

July 18, 2017

  • An officer spoke to the head of the Emergency 911 Board regarding getting a few places on board for emergency locations in town in case we have heat-related needs next week.
  • An officer followed up and met with a county resident regarding a case of insufficient fund checks from a local retail store.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department with an emergency medical call at the Madrid Home.
  • An officer assisted the Ames Police Department in locating someone they needed to speak to about a case.
  • An officer received a call regarding a lost cat. The cat was eventually located by the owner later in the evening.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 900 block of S. Kennedy Street. The driver was given a warning for speed.
  • An officer made contact with two people on bicycles after dark. The officer advised on the proper lighting for riding bicycles on city streets after dark.
  • An officer finished a records request for an out-of-county court case.

July 19, 2017

  • An officer assisted the State Fire Marshall’s office with a building inspection.
  • An officer was called to a local retail store for a hit-and-run accident. The officer received a plate number from a witness, and records indicated the owner was from Woodward. With assistance from the Woodward Chief of Police, the owner was located and returned to Madrid for a report.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of E. Sixth Street. The driver was subsequently cited for operation without registration.
  • An officer unlocked a vehicle for someone in the 300 block of S. Green Street.
  • An officer took a report of an explosion in the 100 block of E. Third Street. It was determined that a small explosive was placed in a radio controlled car and detonated in an empty lot. Multiple neighbors in the area were all able to describe a suspect they saw at the scene. Charges are pending investigation.
  • An officer assisted Boone Deputy Sheriffs regarding a car/deer and also motorcycle/deer collision in the 1900 block of Iowa Highway 210.
  • An officer took several reports of someone banging on the doors and windows of houses in the 400 block of S. Water Street. The officer canvassed the area and was unable to locate anyone.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of E. Sixth street. The driver was warned for a stop sign violation.

July 20, 2017

  • An officer received a debit card that was found on the trail. The officer will attempt to locate the owner.

July 21, 2017

  • An officer spoke to someone regarding a civil issue dealing with property in a divorce.
  • An officer met with a Madrid resident who turned in a vehicle key found near the bike trail. The officer located the owner and returned it.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident regarding drug information.

July 22, 2017

  • An officer had a junk vehicle removed from the 100 block of S. Union Street.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of E. First Street. The driver was warned for speed.
  • An officer took a report about a vehicle involved in a road-rage incident the was possibly driving into town. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.
  • An officer spoke to someone regarding a welfare check on a family member who left the house in a vehicle earlier in the day. The reporting party called back a short time later and said the person returned home.

July 23, 2017

  • An officer responded to a report of illegal dumping along the trail on W. Fourth Street. The officer made contact with a contractor who was removing a concrete driveway from a house on Fourth Street and dumping the concrete into the ravine. The officer directed the contractor to remove everything and will work with the city to calculate the value of damages to the property and to determine charges.
  • An officer responded to a downtown business for a report of someone tearing up their gravel parking lot by spinning a vehicle’s tires. The officer made contact with the male driver and directed him to manually rake the rocks or else face criminal charges. The male was issued a trespass warning for the business.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
