May 1, 2017

  • An officer received a call from the Market of Madrid regarding a few insufficient checks that they wanted to turn over for collections and/or charges.
  • An officer received a call from a Madrid resident needing information on a situation he was dealing with online with a suicidal subject in another country.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident regarding a junk vehicle in his yard in the 100 block of E. Ninth Street. The resident said he had someone coming to get it soon.
  • An officer followed up with interviewing someone being held in the Boone County Jail regarding a past assault case. The officer will file for warrants regarding charges.

May 2, 2017

  • An officer assisted with an emergency medical call in the 400 block of E. Eighth Street.
  • An officer spoke to someone regarding harassing text messages. The officer will contact the offending party to discuss the claim.
  • An officer received a call for a welfare check on someone in the 70 block of E. North Street. The officer made contact with the individual, and everything checked out okay.
  • An officer followed up with the Boone County Attorney regarding a past sexual assault case reported to Madrid Police Department. The officer issued a warrant with the courts for the arrest of the suspect.
  • An officer received a noise complaint regarding a party bus playing loud music in the parking lot of a local tavern. The officer advised the bus driver, who agreed to turn down the music.

May 3, 2017

  • An officer spoke to ACCESS about an ongoing case.
  • An officer worked on several junk vehicle ordinance violations.
  • An officer was called to a local retail store to speak with management regarding problems with a past employee. The officer spoke to the past employee and let him know that the trespass order was still in effect and that he was not allowed on the property.
  • An officer received a call regarding a dog bite with minor injuries in the 800 block of S. Union Street. The officer made contact with the Boone Humane Society regarding a quarantine with the animal and will follow up with the owner of the dog for the proper paperwork regarding current vaccinations.
  • An officer received a call regarding a civil property issue in the 400 block of Newton Road. Officer advised the party.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of S. Kennedy Avenue. The driver was warned for a stop sign infraction.

May 4, 2017

  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department with a medical call at the Madrid Clinic.
  • An officer received a complaint of construction debris and junk vehicles in the 400 block of W. Fifth Street. The officer will serve a notice to the owner for clean up.
  • An officer received a complaint of a nuisance violation in the 600 block of Washington Street. The officer could not find any violation at this property.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department in the 400 block of E. First Street on a medical call.
  • An officer was called by a local fuel retailer regarding an issue with gas drive offs.
  • An officer performed a funeral procession.
  • An officer was called to the 200 block of S. Madison Street for door-to-door salesmen selling without a vendor’s permit. The officer located two males from Utah, gave them a warning and escorted them out of the city limits.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department on an emergency medical call in the 500 block of Milwaukee Street.
  • An officer responded to the 900 block of S. Kennedy Avenue regarding a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old repeatedly entering traffic on the highway and causing motorists to become concerned for the children’s safety. The officer located the young ladies and returned them home on Maverick Lane. Evidently, their older sibling, who was supposed to be watching them, failed to monitor them closely enough.
  • An officer responded to a domestic situation involving a male hitting people and a vehicle with a stick in the alley behind 211 S. State St. Upon investigation, it was determined that Thomas Wignall Jr. of Madrid had assaulted two relatives. Wignall was arrested and charged with domestic assault and aggravated assault and transported to the Boone County Jail for processing.

May 5, 2017

  • An officer was called to Continental Labs for a fire alarm. The cause turned out to be from burnt popcorn and was a false alarm.
  • An officer performed a civil stand-by in the 400 block of Newton Road.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department on a medical call at 917 S. Kennedy St.
  • An officer assisted a Madrid resident when his vehicle broke down in the 400 block of E. First Street. The officer pushed the vehicle into a parking lot.
  • An officer assisted a Madrid resident by speaking with her juvenile who was out of control. The officer followed the mother to the Madrid High School with the juvenile and had a meeting with school staff.

May 6, 2017

  • An officer took a report of a reckless driver traveling northbound on Iowa Highway 17. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle in question.
  • An officer received a report of several juveniles riding a four-wheeler in the 800 block of S. Kennedy Street. The officer spoke to the parent of the juveniles, and the parent agreed not to let the children ride in town any longer.

May 7, 2017

  • An officer responded to the 2200 block of Iowa Highway 17 for a two-vehicle collision with minor injuries.
  • An officer responded to a report of suspicious activity. Everything checked okay.
  • An officer responded to a local restaurant for an alarm. The alarm was determined to be false.

May 7, 2017

  • An officer responded to the Edgewood Park concession stand in order to take a report of a burglary. A large amount of concessions were taken, including candy and pop. The safe was also removed, and property damage occurred. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
  • An officer responded to a report of fireworks being set off in the 600 block of W. First Street. The display had stopped prior to arrival.
  • An officer unlocked a vehicle.
  • An officer responded to 107 Jonathon Drive for multiple reports of the resident burning old household furniture in a backyard fire pit, causing a dangerously toxic, noxious smoke to blanket the neighborhood. Upon arrival, the officer noted a large fire and smoke plume emitting foul smelling fumes. The Madrid Police Department has been called to this residence three times for this same complaint and has issued warnings prior. The resident, Linsey Tjernagel, was told to extinguish the blaze and was cited for restricted/ illegal burning.
  • An officer took a report of suspicious activity and a possible attempted burglary in the 300 block of E. Ninth Street. The officer searched the area but was unable to locate anyone.
