Michael Alfred Draeger of Perry

Michael Alfred “Mike” Draeger, son of Milton Albert Draeger and Jean Day Draeger, was born June 28, 1949, in St. Louis, Mo., and died Dec. 19, 2016, at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa, at the age of 67.

Mike grew up in Missouri and graduated from O’Fallon Technical High School and the University of Nebraska in Omaha.

On June 8, 1968, Mike and Georgia Szwargulski were united in marriage. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. The couple was blessed with three children, Kenneth, Paul and Teresa.

Mike worked for Carlson Systems and Sears before owning his own embroidery business from 1990 to 1995. When he lived in Des Moines, he worked at the Valley West Mall doing custom sewing.

Mike was a good artist. He enjoyed painting, playing chess and cribbage. Mike was also a private pilot and loved to fly!

He was a member of Scottish Rite, Waveland Park Lodge, Mason and Shriner and Home Lodge 370 as master.

Mike loved spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Jean Draeger; son, Kenneth Draeger; and brothers, Richard Day and Mitch Draeger.

Mike is survived by his wife, Georgia Draeger of Perry; son, Paul (Charolotte) Draeger of Pleasant Hill; daughter, Teresa (Andrew) Dunn of Spokane, Wash.; five grandchildren, Christopher, Kenneth and Nicholas Draeger and Rory and Sean Dunn; sisters, Janet (Tommy) Schomaker and Judy (Jerry) Bextermueller, both of Portage Des Sioux, Mo.; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

Hastings Funeral Home in Perry was in charge of the arrangements.
