The Perry Volunteer Fire Department battled a midnight blaze early Tuesday morning at 1611 Fourth St. in Perry.

The Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded to a midnight scene of a house fire at 1611 Fourth St. in Perry. The blaze was quickly controlled.

The fire was reported at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday morning by April Steadman, according to the Perry Police Department. Steadman told police her dog was still inside the house but everyone else had gotten out.

Perry Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Hinds confirmed the dog died of smoke inhalation.

There were no other reports of injuries and no information about the cause of the fire. The case is under investigation, according to the Perry Police Department.

Public records indicate the 100-year-old house is owned by a company called Varied Properties LTD. John J. Scieszinski is listed as the president of Varied Properties. The company has a Norwalk mailing address.
