Minburnites met in Meek Park Saturday, June 10 for the season's first Meet Me in Minburn event.

Hot summer days and sultry thunderstorms bring back memories of the past, filled with thoughts of family picnics and the good times had by all.

Such was the case Saturday, June 10 at the season’s first Meet Me in Minburn picnic supper and concert. The event was held in Meek Park in Minburn.

The Minburn United Methodist Church provided a free meal of beef burgers, baked beans, potato chips, beverage and dessert bar or cookies.

The purpose of Meet Me in Minburn, according to organizers, is to provide an opportunity for the local community to get together and engage in Christian fellowship and goodwill.

Dozens of attendees were seen enjoying the wholesome fellowship, and at 7 p.m. a free concert was provided by the musical group InFuzon.

A stormy background Sunday, June 11 did not darken the Christian fellowship when the Rippey United Methodist Church held its twice-annual ice cream social.

The Church hosts a second ice cream social in September. A large part of the congregation works at these events, which are popular attractions for the residents of the area.

Like the Minburn meetings, the purpose of the Rippet get togethers is to act as a community outreach and provide an enjoyable atmosphere in which to converse with other area residents.

The meal included beef burgers, ham salad sandwiches, homemade ice cream, home-baked pies and a beverage. Monies raised are used for church building improvements and area mission projects.

“The Ham Salad was especially delicious,” said attendee Lois Hoger of Perry.

The September event will be held on or around the second Sunday of the month.
