NFL predictions: Week 8

A brief overview of the six state title games on tap at the UNI-Dome.

Last week I went against my better judgment on three games, and all three blew up into losses, dropping the record for Week 7 to 8-6 and moving the season totals to 64-41 (.610).

Once again it is the same ol’ teams playing in the prime spots, as the nation must endure New England tonight, a struggling Dallas squad in the late Sunday game that most of the country will be fed and Green Bay and Denver in the prime time Sunday game.

Here come the picks …

Thursday’s Game
DOLPHINS at PATRIOTS, 7:25 p.m., CBS/NFLN
Dan Campbell has Miami playing inspired ball, but this is New England we are talking about, not Houston … PATS 30-13.

Sunday’s Games
LIONS at CHIEFS (London), 8:30 a.m., FOX
I went against Kansas City last week and should not have. Even without Mr. Charles they are too much for Detroit … CHIEFS 27-17.

BUCCANEERS at FALCONS, 12 p.m., FOX
Atlanta just needs to keep on keeping on and everything will take care of itself … FALCONS 35-20.

CHARGERS at RAVENS, 12 p.m., CBS
My how the Crows have fallen. San Diego is never great on the East Coast and although I am tempted, something tells me otherwise, so I will take … BALTIMORE 19-16.

VIKINGS at BEARS, 12 p.m., FOX
No. 28 has been trouble for Chicago in the past, and will be again in this game. However, look for the hosts to steal one on Lake Shore Drive … DA BEARS 26-24.

CARDINALS at BROWNS, 12 p.m., FOX
Is anyone surprised that Cleveland is in disarray? That said, it won’t be easy for Arizona, who tends (and this is a bad trend) to struggle in games they should win easily … REDBIRDS 28-21.

TITANS at TEXANS, 12 p.m., CBS
Houston gave Mallett the hammer, and maybe that will inspire someone other than J.J. Watts to play hard … TEXANS 24-23.

GIANTS at SAINTS, 12 p.m., FOX
New Orleans has been up-and-down and New York often looks better than they probably are. If Ingram runs for 100+ yards again, take N.O. I think he will, so … SAINTS 27-20.

BENGALS at STEELERS, 12 p.m., CBS
If looks as if Big Ben will be back under center for Pittsburgh, who is a different team with No. 7 playing. However, the Bengals are simply a better all-around team … CINCY 31-20.

FORTY-NINERS at RAMS, 12 p.m., FOX
The Gateway Arch (otherwise known as the Jefferson Westward Expansion Monument) was completed 50 years ago last week, which has nothing to do with this game … RAMS 24-16.

JETS at RAIDERS, 3:05 p.m., CBS
Oakland’s passing game will be tested by a stingy New York pass defense and effective pass rush … JETS 27-17.

SEAHAWKS at COWBOYS, 3:25 p.m., FOX
Dallas just counting down the days to Romo and Dez are both back … SEATTLE 26-16.

PACKERS at BRONCOS, 7:30 p.m., NBC *
The best game of the week and one that will hopefully be worth waiting all day for. I see the Discount Double-Check edging Mr. High-Voiced Skinny Legs … GREEN BAY 27-24.

Monday’s Game
COLTS at PANTHERS, 7:30 p.m., ESPN
This being a public space, I cannot express my true feelings for Scam Newton. Indy coach Chuck Pagano has been a good story, but it is about to end … CAROLINA 33-19.

Byes: Buffalo, Jacksonville, Philadelphia, Washington

Last week: 8-6. Season: 64-41 (.610).
