The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended the flood warning now in effect until late Monday afternoon. The flood warning continues for the North Raccoon River near Perry or from the Greene-Dallas County line to Adel.

The flood warning was extended Sunday morning for all or portions of the North Raccoon and Des Moines rivers and affects Dallas, Greene and Polk counties.

The NWS defines flood stage as 15 feet. At 10:15 a.m. Sunday, the stage was 17 feet or 2 feet above flood stage. Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.

At 17 feet, water is approaching the bottom of the U.S. Highway 169 bridge on the north side of Adel and the bride on County Road P58 south of Perry. Farmland between Perry and Adel is flooded.

If you encounter a flooded area, the NWS recommends turning around and finding an alternate route. The NWS slogan is “Turn around. Do not drown.”
